Tam Nông district covers an area of 46,081.86 ha which borders Tân Hồng district and Hồng Ngự district to the North; Thanh Bình district to the South; Tháp Mười district, Cao Lãnh district and Long An province to the East and borders Hồng Ngự and Thanh Bình district to the West.

The district is located in the center of the northern part of the province with Tiền River and National Route No.30 crossing through, having the waterway network which is evenly distributed, creating favorable conditions for goods exchange and economic development.

Having the population of 108,071 people with 25,040 households, a density of 215 people/km²; Tam Nông district has 12 communes and town.

In fields of agriculture production, Tam Nông has strength on agriculture with rice as a leading sector. The locality is gradually transforming its economic structure with the model of agriculture – industry – commercial – tourism, accelerating the industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural economy. Therefore, the district has been achieving fast and steady results. Besides, livestock and poultry breeding, especially aquaculture are thriving.

Industrial and handicraft production have made a lot of progress but still in small scale, their products are not able to compete with the trade market.
